BinarySoft BDI Troubleshooting
1. Windows Issues
- Each time I try to open BinarySoft BDI, I get the error message "Unable to launch the application" and a detailed error message of the form "java.net.MalformedURLException: unknown protocol: socket" or "java.lang.IllegalStateException: DynamicProxyManager: Invalid Proxy Type"
This error is normally due to incorrect web proxy settings for Java - please try the following steps:
1. Go to the Java control panel - in Windows this can be found by going to Control Panel then Java
2. Under the General tab, click the "Network Settings..." button
3. If you know the details of your proxy server then enter those here; if you are not using a proxy or if you are unsure then click "Direct connection" and then OK a couple of times.
4. Restart BDI and you should then be able to log in successfully. - Whenever I launch BinarySoft BDI, I get an error message of the form "java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\58\64c1a8ba-3343a2c5 (The system cannot find the file specified)
This error is due to security programs such as Window Washer cleaning up certain folders incorrectly, here are a few possible solutions:
1. Take the BDI installation URL provided in the signup email and create a shortcut on the Desktop/Favourites/Start Menu, usually by right-clicking on the URL. You can then use that created shortcut each time you want to start BDI.
2. Have a look around the options of your security program to see if you can disable cleaning of the Java cache folders.
3. Perhaps try an alternative security program.
